The Exotic World Burlesque Museum, run by 76-year-old former exotic dancer Dixie Evans and home to retired strippers, celebrates the art of Burlesque striptease in the Mojave Desert near Route 66 with the annual pageant that draws competing striptease artists from across the nation and abroad. In keeping with tradition, the performers strip only to the minimally modest coverings of pasties and thong panties. American Burlesque entertainment began in the early 1900's, reached its popular height from the 1930's to the 1950's and died out with the rise of television in the 1960's.
