Hammertoe deformity is the most common deformity of the lesser toes (see image below). It primarily comprises flexion deformity of the proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint of the toe, with hyperextension of the metatarsophalangeal (MTP) and distal interphalangeal (DIP) joints (see image below).
